Stephen D. "Stubb" Whitesell grew up in Miami, Oklahoma and graduated from Miami High School in 1972. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College from 1972-1974 and graduated with an Associate in Arts, and he received his bachelor's degree from Missouri Southern State University. Whitesell returned to NEO in 1980. He served as band director and established the NEO Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2015, he formed Norse Campus Ministries to oversee FCA activities and athletic team bible studies with a board of directors composed of former NEO athletes and coaches who joined to manage and raise funds for the ministry. Whitesell holds team bible studies with 150 students weekly and conducts team chapel for football and men's basketball before games. He serves as the stadium announcer for NEO Football and was the gameday announcer for NEO Baseball for over 40 years. He continues to volunteer and assist in the beautification of the NEO campus. In 2016, Whitesell was honored with the Distinguished Service Award for 20 years of service to Oklahoma Legion Boys State, and he is a member of the Northeast Oklahoma FCA Hall of Fame. Whitesell has two children, Stephen Whitesell Jr. and Brittany Whitesell. His wife of 18 years, Barbara "Barb" Whitesell, passed away in 2005.
