Hall of Fame
J.V. Haney’s relationship with NEO began as a student athlete in 1953. He played catcher for Homa Thomas’ baseball team. Haney’s loyalty to NEO has remained strong to this day. He has served NEO in the following capacities, NEO Development Foundation Board of Directors, commencement speaker and chair of the Puddin’ Haney Classic NEO Alumni Golf Tournament from 2002-2010.
Before launching his broadcast career during the '80s, Haney recorded 313 victories during a 30-year career of coaching high school basketball. In addition to coaching basketball Haney also coached football, golf and baseball. In 1985 Haney earned the honor of being named the Tulsa World Coach of the Year. Haney was also elected president of the Oklahoma Coaches Association and in 2003 was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
After 13 years of involvement in the University of Tulsa’s Golden Hurricane broadcasts -- providing sideline reports in football and analysis in basketball -- Haney quietly stepped aside before the start of the 2007 football season. Haney currently serves as an analyst on Cox Communications' telecasts of high school football and basketball games. He hosts four coaches' shows and works in public relations for Spirit Bank.
