Best known as the “Furnas Brothers” Mike and Doug Furnas graduated from Commerce High School in 1979 with a State Runner-up title and All-State honors in Football. Together the brothers came to play for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and were instrumental to the 1980 NJCAA National Championship. Mike Furnas was honored to be voted onto the 1980 NJCAA All-American Team as well.

The Furnas Brothers transferred to play for the University of Tennessee. Doug still holds the men’s collegiate national records in the squat (881.75 lbs.) and deadlift (766 lbs.) which he set in 1983. Doug went on to sign as a Free Agent for the Denver Broncos. Mike also signed as a Free Agent for the Washington Redskins and later the New York Jets.
Mike and Doug were also accomplished professional wrestlers.
The traditional phrase of “Once a Norseman… Always a Norseman” is true to the legacy of Mike and Doug, NEO’s “Furnas Brothers”.
