Boyd Converse spent over forty years in education impacting the lives of young people as a coach, teacher and administrator. Boyd arrived in Miami at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College where he made a large impact as Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletic Director from 1972-1989. During his tenure as Athletic Director at NEO, he was a part of two football National Championships in 1980 and 1986 respectively. NEO appeared in 14 bowl games, 4 of those being national championship games. The Men's basketball team won a National Championship in 1989 and the women's basketball team appeared in three National tournaments during his tenure. The men's baseball team was a national finalist and he is credited with starting the women's softball team that also appeared in two national tournaments during his stay at NEO. Boyd was also involved in administering one of the largest high school basketball tournaments in the area as well as organizing the national championship game in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
His illustrious career as athlete, coach and administrator has earned him the honor of hall of fame inductee at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Paris Junior College, Kilgore College and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
