Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Baseball experienced a historic resurgence under the leadership of Head Coach Bill Mayberry (1987–1990). In this first season at, Mayberry led the Golden Norsemen to the Bi-State East Conference Championship, baseball’s first conference title in two decades.  
 

The pinnacle of his tenure came in 1989, a landmark season in NEO Baseball history. That year, the Norsemen captured the Bi-State East Conference, Region II, and the Central District Championships, earning a berth to the NJCAA JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the JUCO World Series, Coach Mayberry’s team finished as National Runner-Up, cementing their place among the all-time greats. The 1989 team set a school record with 65 wins. 
 

Coach Mayberry’s impact extended beyond the diamond. He served as NEO’s Athletic Director from 1991 to 1992. Under his leadership, the college was honored with the prestigious Day’s Inn All-Sports Award, recognizing the top-performing athletic department in the NJCAA. 
 

Mayberry’s legacy of leadership and excellence continued after his time at NEO. He went on to serve as Athletic Director for Enid Public Schools from 1992 to 2010. He oversaw major facility improvements across multiple sports and served as President of the Oklahoma Athletic Directors Association in 2009. In 2012, Mayberry returned to baseball as Head coach at Enid High school, coaching the Plainsmen for three seasons. 
 

A visionary for baseball in Oklahoma, Mayberry led Enid’s American Legion team to a 2005 National Championship. He was instrumental in developing the nationally recognized David Allen Memorial Ballpark in downtown Enid. This project allowed the stadium to be the host site of the NJCAA Division II World Series—he served as Tournament Director.
