Steve Green, a 1972 graduate of Miami High School, played guard on the 1973 and 1974 Golden Norsemen basketball teams. Green broke and still holds the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College record for the most steals in a single game with 11 steals against Connors State College. He later turned his attention to coaching, where he would find outstanding success as a head coach at three different NJCAA programs over 28 years. Spending three years each at Howard College and Midland College, Green led both programs to Region V Championships and berths into the NJCAA National Tournament. His success landed him at South Plains College for his final 22 seasons as the head coach for the Texans. He led the program to eight Region V championships and 12 NJCAA National Tournaments and captured three NJCAA Men's Basketball National Championships (2008, 2012, and 2018), including a perfect 36-0 season in 2012. A three-time NJCAA National Coach of the Year honoree, he was inducted into the NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2015. Green compiled a career record of 705-195.
