On Saturday, September 9, 1967 the Golden Norsemen football team of NEO opened their season with a victory over the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore. This was the beginning of a great tenure for first year Head Coach Chuck Bowman.

The Norsemen finished the regular season with an 8-1 record. On November 29th, NEO captured the 196 7 NJCAA National Championship. The Norsemen defeated Lees-McRae, NC, 35-13 in the fifth annual Shrine Bowl in Savannah, GA, and completed the year with a 9-1 record.

NEO was led by All-American Quarterback Doug Mathews and All-American Linebacker Ronnie Lowe who both earned Most Valuable Player awards. Defensive Back John Pell also received All-American honors.

Assistant Coaches for the 1967 Team were John Tiger, Bob Maxwell, Jack Wallace and Gary Howard.
