Lady Norse Take Two on the Road

NEO Softball headed north to take on the Lady Cardinals of Labette County on Tuesday, March 5th in Parsons, KS. The Lady Norse wasted no time scoring in game one putting up 11 runs in five innings. Hadley Calico had a single down the left field line, then Kayley Iott put NEO on the board in the first inning, scoring two runs. Sophomore center fielder hit two homeruns in the second and third innings, and led the team in RBI's with six. Emily Carpenter had a stolen base in the fifth inning. Catcher Camille Davidson hit her first collegiate homerun in the top of the fifth inning and added another three runs to secure the win. Calico and Tune were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for NEO. Jayley Ray led the Lady Norse with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks in the game. The Lady Norse were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Lillie Johnson earned the win. The righty gave up three hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. 

 

Game two was a hard-earned win as the Lady Norse battled through all seven innings and came out on top. NEO was winning 4-0 when Labette County rallied to tie things up in the sixth inning. Going into the top of the seventh Calico reached on an error by Labette's shortstop, and on a 2-2 count Kayley Iott sent one deep over the center field fence, making the score 6-4. NEO had 8 hits during game two. Iott led with three: 2 homeruns, 1 single, and 5 RBI. Skyler Wade came in clutch with back-to-back doubles. Pratt, Price, and Tune each added a hit in the game. Calico and Norton each had a walk. Jillian McDaniel started the game going four innings, giving up four runs on three hits, walking three and striking out one. Skyler Wade came in relief and pitched the fifth and sixth innings, giving up three hits, one run and striking out two to earn the win. Freshman pitcher Corissa Bandel came in out of the bullpen in the bottom of the seventh and struck out two of the three batters to close the side and get the save.

Labette County will be coming to Iverson Field for a rematch on Monday, March 18th at 2 and 4pm. NEO travels to Neosho County on Sunday 3/10 for a 2pm double header start time.
