Lady Norse Lose On Road

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. - Despite scoring two goals in the second half, Northeastern A&M's Norse women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision Friday to the Pirates at Independence Community College.
"We're making steady progress with each match," Norse head coach Lisa Bell said. "We played a solid 90 minutes for the first time, now we just have to tighten up our defensive effort.
"Our first couple of matches we would play well in the 45 minutes and have a let down in the second," Bell said. "But, we moved the ball well on offense the entire match against Indy, even in the sweltering weather conditions."
Independence built a 2-0 lead at halftime after goals by sophomore wing Kelsey Swarens and freshman mid-fielder Brooke Smith.
NEO received a goal by veteran Joya Smith on a pass from Jacoby Penrod at the 50-minute mark of the second half.
A goal by freshman Sheryl Evans at the 63-minute point created a brief 2-2 tie for the Lady Norse.
Independence (2-1) scored goals by freshmen Jesica Hernandez and Kylie Mank with time winding down sealed the Pirates win.
The 0-3 Norse return to Robertson Field Tuesday for a 2 p.m. match with Cowley Community College 0-1 of Arkansas City, Kan.
