"We're still trying to work out some kinks in our offensive execution," Norse head coach Lisa Bell said. "The season is still early, but we need to learn to get off to a faster start than we have in the past." Winless in the first four matches, the Norse remain at home Thursday for a 3 p.m. match with the Red Ravens of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College on the NEO soccer pitch. The Cowley Tigers are 1-1 on the year while the Coffeyville Red Ravens lead the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with a perfect 3-0 record. Goals by sophomore forward Kristin Selwert and veteran mid-fielder Julie Guzman gave the Tigers a 2-0 cushion in the first 10 minutes of the opening half. NEO sophomore forward Joya Smith sent a shot into the net as the Lady Norse trailed 2-1 at halftime. "I wish we hadn't taken a break at halftime because we seemed to be gathering some consistency with our ability to move the ball," Bell said. "We took a lot of shots on goal in the second half, but once again, we didn't move very well on offense." Cowley's final goal came on a shot by veteran mid-fielder Kelsey Coleman with less than seven minutes left on the clock. Print Friendly Version
