NEO Baseball Opens Spring Season on the Road at Panola College

February 1st and 2nd, 2026

The Norsemen open their spring campaign this week on the road at Panola College, stepping into Carthage, Texas with a young roster, renewed energy, and belief in what this team can become. This team represents hard work, athleticism, and the willingness to compete without fear. After a productive fall filled with development and preparation, the Norsemen are focused on translating their work into consistent performance between the lines.

A key early in the season will be leadership, particularly from the sophomore class. Having experienced the demands of collegiate baseball while still carrying the edge of players striving to prove themselves, the sophomore leaders are expected to set the tone both on and off the field.

"Leadership shows up in how you prepare, how you compete, and how you respond when things don't go your way," the coaching staff emphasized heading into the opener. Coach Roger Ward is entering his 29th year at the helm of the program. Coach Ward is 12 wins away from 900 wins as a head coach. He believes that this team has what it takes to be successful.

Opening the season on the road provides its own challenges. The Norsemen will rely on connection, toughness, and attention to detail. The focus remains simple: control the game one pitch at a time, one out at a time, and one decision at a time. The team trusts that consistent execution will lead to results.

The first chapter of the season will be written this week at Panola College. And while it's only the beginning, the Norsemen believe that this group has the foundation to make this season a strong one.
