Box Score NEO Head Women's Soccer Coach
Lisa Bell and her assistant coach
Fortune Karleskint could not have been happier with their Lady Norse soccer team on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Norse practiced with passion and perfected each individual athlete's performance to come together in a symphony of skill to capture an elusive 1-0 win over the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets on Sunday afternoon on the Red Robertson Field turf in front of a rowdy pro-NEO crowd.
NEO dominated the first half on both sides of the ball. The Lady Norse defense limited the Jets to only three shots on goal with stellar consistent play coming from sophomore
Lindsey George and freshman sweeper-stopper
Fatimatu Abdul-Hakim. Versatile Commerce-product
Arianna Rodriguez and
Sammy Martinez helped shore up the midfield which allowed defender
Carson Sargent to push forward on offense. Sargent's forward progression led to offensive production when she found Kiera "Kricket" Connaughton for what would be the only goal of the game for either team in the 43
rd minute of the match. NEO maintained the lead for the remainder of the first half.
The second half saw the Lady Norse create more goal-scoring opportunities as the NEO offense took an additional seven shots. But NOC-Enid did not give up. Lady Norse freshman goalkeeper
Izzy Coulson made three saves in the first half, but the second half tested her skill further as the NOC-Jets put a total of eight more shots on goal. Coulson proved she was up to the challenge by saving all 11 shots on goal to keep a clean sheet through the entire 90-minute game to preserve the victory. Connaughton was credited with the game-winning goal while Sargent was credited with an assist. Coulson's performance garnered her Region 2 Player of the Week for Week 6 accolades with 11 saves and zero goals against in 90 minutes of play.
The Lady Norse are now 1-7-1 overall on the season. NEO has a quick turnaround when NEO hosts the Connors State College Cowgirls on Tuesday, October 1 at 5 pm. The Lady Norse fell to the Cowgirls on September 1. NEO is primed to avenge the loss. Come cheer on the Lady Norse. Admission is always free to the public. Come cheer on Row! Norse! Row! Go! Go! NEO!
