Tough Losses and Gritty Wins

NEO Softball hosted the Kirkwood Eagles for a non-conference matchup on March 11th.  Game one NEO took a 3-7 loss. Game one NEO pitched by staff, throwing Lillie Johnson, Skyler Wade, and Jill McDaniel. As a staff they gave up seven runs on ten hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Catcher Camille Davidson caught their only runner trying to steal. NEO had seven total hits, with five walks, four strikeouts, and one hit by pitch. NEO was quick on their feet with five stolen bases. Despite the loss NEO was perfect in the field, with zero errors on defense. 
 
Game two was a gritty and exciting matchup going back and forth and then showing some NEO magic at the end. Freshman Corissa Bandel earned the win. She went six innings, giving up eight hits, seven runs (6 earned), one walk, and five strikeouts. Morgan Wright threw one inning in relief giving up one hit and one earned run, walking none and striking out none. The offense was the magical part of game two. NEO had eleven hits: 9 singles, 1 triple, and one homerun. Walks were crucial to the success of game two with eight walks. There were four stolen bases. Sydney Price, Madison Pratt Kayley Iott, each had one hit. Destiny Tune and Corissa Bandel both had two hits apiece. The offensive MVP for NEO was Hadley Calico as she went 4-4 with a walk, two singles, a triple, and the walk off three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and an 0-2 count. The homerun walked Kirkwood off with a 9-8 victory to secure game two.
