The Norsemen soccer team played what could have been a frustrating match verses Crowder College Tuesday night. 2 goals by defender
Andre Dutra however turned the night into an exciting one for NEO.
In the first half NEO dominated much of the play. Over 60% of the first half was played in NEO's offensive 1/3 of the field. Despite NEO having control of the game, a counter attack by Crowder following a nearly missed shot attempt by NEO resulted in crowder taking a 0-1 lead into halftime. Much of the second half felt as though NEO was going to score and take over the game at any minute, but again NEO was held out of the net until deep into the second half. In the 80th minute
Andre Dutra found Crowder's goal keeper playing well off his line and took advantage. Dutra slotted a 35 yard shot over the keeper and under the bar to tie the game at 1 all. In sudden death overtime Crowder gave NEO an early scare with a nearly missed shot in the opening seconds of play. After that initial shot by Crowder, the game was again all NEO. With just under a minute to play in the first overtime Dutra won a head ball on a corner kick and redirected the cross to the back of the net for the win.
NEO will get a short break in Soccer action. Their next match will be Oct. 11th when they host Rich Mountain.
