Kiarra Brooks Receives Dixie Woodall Inspirational Award

Miami, Okla. – Tuesday, February 25, 2020 – The twelfth annual Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) Dixie Woodall Inspirational Award was presented to Miss Kiarra Brooks on Feb. 25 as the NEO Lady Norse Basketball Team closed out their home season against Western Oklahoma State College. Brooks finished the night with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Brooks, a sophomore from Sapulpa, Okla., has been a team leader and is known to go the extra mile on the court. According to Coach Jim Rowland, she would run through a brick wall and then ask if there was anything else she could do to help her team.

Brooks was chosen based on her leadership, mentorship, and motivation of her teammates and the NEO community. Each year's honoree encourages a spirit of cooperation among her teammates and possesses a high standard of achievement in all that she attempts.

The Dixie Woodall Inspiration Award was first presented in 2008. Woodall, an NEO alumna, achieved international acclaim during her basketball career, earning a silver medal at the Pan-American Games and serving as an assistant coach to the 1977 World University Games silver medal team. She has been inducted into the Junior College Hall of Fame, the National Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, and has been recognized as an NEO Outstanding Alumna.

"I always enjoy presenting the Dixie Woodall Inspiration award and am honored to have Dixie come back to campus each year," said Coach Rowland. "She is truly a remarkable woman and has done so much for women's basketball. She is a person I respect and admire and I consider it a privilege for my girls to meet her and get to hear her stories. It's a rewarding night for the NEO Lady Norse Basketball Program."
