RUEADALE "RUDI" WILLIAMS, a 6-3 JC point guard with more than 20 known scholarship offers in the 2020 recruiting cycle, tells Cougfan.com he's high on Washington State and plans to take an official visit to Pullman
"I don't have a date, but anytime from now to late March. I definitely plan on visiting," he said.
Williams, who prepped up north in Hamilton, Ontario, is a sophomore at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and putting together a monster junior college season. He's averaging 9.8 assists (second in the NJCAA), 19.8 points points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Williams also averages 3.2 steals per game, which ranks him just outside the top 10 in the NJCAA.
"I'm very interested in Wazzu," he said.
WSU assistant coach Jim Shaw and recruiting coordinator Michael Plank are running the point in his recruitment. "Plank and Shaw -- those are my guys," said Williams, who added he's been in close communication with Shaw ever since receiving his WSU offer in October.
Besides WSU, he says he likes New Mexico State, Boise State and Northern Kentucky (all of whom have offered) as well as lurking schools Indiana, Pitt and Ole Miss.
"I'm a dual-threat point guard that can get my teammates involved and make guys around me better or I can go get buckets," he said. "I'm capable of getting a double double every time I step on the floor and I'm a winner most importantly."
He has seven double-doubles in 12 games this season, plus two triple-doubles.
With Cougar points guards Jaylen Shead and Jervae Robinson graduating after the season, Williams looks to be a plug-and-play candidate with two years of eligibility left.
The question of course for most is when might we know what Williams decides, and he's someone who might help bridge the gap between the departing veterans and the youngsters like Noah Williams, Ryan Rapp and D.J. Rodman. A decision isn't imminent, he said, but it is somewhere on the horizon.
"I want to commit in between February and March and then sign in April, said Williams.
THE COUGARS HAVE two scholarship slots left available in the 2020 cycle. Kyle Smith inked 6-5 guard T.J. Bamba and 6-10 Aussie Efe Abogidi in the early signing period in November. The regular signing period in basketball runs from mid April to mid May.
