Norsemen Drop Season opener to No. 16 Cowley
A good day of soccer finished in a 3-1 loss NEO Men's Soccer team. Cowley opened the match in control of the majority of possession. While NEO was under attack in the early going, an organized Norsemen defense minimized any real threat created by the Tigers. As the half went on, NEO gained some footing to even out control of the game. Approximately 30 minutes into the first have Cowley was awarded and converted a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. The half would end at that score.
In the second half, play opened without either team showing clear dominance. Cowley broke the stalemate at the 59-minute mark after intercepting a Norsemen pass. Cowley quickly counter attacked and put away a goal to go up 2-0. Shortly after Cowley's, second goal NEO created some forward momentum. As the ball was pushed forward Harry Sargent received a pass in the top to the box where held the ball long enough earn a Penalty for NEO. Dylan Galhardo converted the PK to put the Norsemen on the board.
NEO had Cowley on their heels as the second half was closing out. The majority of play was in the Norsemen offensive third from the 70th minute to the 80th. In the final minutes it looked as though NEO might find one more goal to push the game to overtime, but with 3 minutes, remaining Cowley would connect on a set piece put the game out of reach.
NEO soccer will be back in action when both the Women's and Men's team host Neosho County on Tuesday August 27th.
