The Lady Norse have been on campus since August 10th working on team dynamics.
"We had a bit of a rough go of it last season with team dynamics. We had some talented players and we had some great moments throughout the season but we never really meshed as a team." said head coach
Lisa Bell. "We are really trying to emphasize with this group the importance of keeping an open line of communication. A team is like a family...you don't always like your family but you still have to be able to get along and work with them!"
This pre-season in addition to regular conditioning and practices, the Lady Norse have been in overdrive on opening up the line of communication among the players and coaches.
"It's easier to figure out what a person is thinking if you ask! We aren't mind readers. That has been my goal with all of our extra activities. If we can get the players talking to each other and problem solving on and off the field they should be able to better handle game day situations and ultimately play to each others strengths." said Bell.
This past week the Lady Norse participated in an Escape room in which neither team successfully escaped from the room! It was still considered a success by all involved because the athletes had to think outside of the box and work together to accomplish each task.
Thursday they had their first scrimmage against Evangel University where the Lady Norse lost 1-3.
"We knew going into the scrimmage it wasn't going to be perfect. It was going to be an opportunity to see where players could fit within the system. We saw a lot of good things from individual players as well as the team as a whole. We also had the chance to see some weaknesses and areas we still need to work on before we open up on the 22nd with Cowley." said Bell.
The Lady Norse open up home play August 22nd on Red Robertson field against Cowley County at 3pm.
