The NEO Golden Norsemen wrestling team stormed to victory over the Labette Community College Cardinals Sunday afternoon in front of a sold-out fieldhouse.  At the same time, on adjacent mat the Oklahoma State Cowboys swamped Bucknell University 36-6.  It was a great afternoon of wrestling at the highest level.

Leading the way for the Norsemen were the six pins. They were recorded by Asa (Alex) Nelson, 157 lbs. over Karim Shereef in :08 seconds; Ruston Duke, 197 lbs. over Kevin Easterwood in 1:31; Saul Ortiz, 174 lbs. over Skyler Bloomer in 1:27; Shawn Michael Beeson, 285 lbs. over Chance Schooler in 2:30; and Logan Terrill, 125 lbs. over Dakota Jones in 4:49.

Winning major decisions for NEO were Sean DeShazer, 133 lbs. 12-3; Curtis Burnett, 141 lbs. 14-4; and Dustin Hayden, 149 lbs. 12-3. At 165 lbs. James Wyatt Jordan for NEO notched his second collegiate victory over number one ranked NJCAA Danny Conley  6-4.  Jordan dominated the match until a late takedown by Conley made it close.

Five Norsemen traveled to the Oklahoma City Open Sunday and placed in the top four of their weight classes. Michael Lopez, 141 lbs. finished fourth while NEO took all four places in the 149 lb. weight class with Dylan Lucas first; Brogan Humphrey, second; Chase Roth, third; and Colten Allen, fourth.

The majority of Norse wrestlers will travel to Maryville University next weekend for the Kaufman-Brands Open, while some Norse wrestlers will also be competing in the Oklahoma Open in Yukon, Oklahoma next Sunday as well as the Central Missouri University tournament on Saturday.

"What an excellent opportunity it was today for our wrestlers to perform in front of a sold-out fieldhouse and be part of an event with Oklahoma State University side by side. An outstanding moment for wrestling in the State of Oklahoma. I want to thank Coach John Smith for bringing his men to Miami for this event." said Coach Joe Renfro.
