The Northeast Oklahoma A&M wrestlers defeated Barton CC, Kansas 41-6 tonight in the Student Activities Center. The Norsemen remain undefeated in dual meets at 3-0. The NEO wrestlers have now defeated #4 ranked Labette CC, Neosho CC, and #20 Barton CC by a combined score of 132-9. The Norse wrestlers won nine of ten matches tonight and the lone Barton win came via a defensive pin.
Curtis Burnett, 133 lb. sophomore continues undefeated at 8-0 with a decisive 20-10 major decision victory. Winning by pins for the NEO wrestlers were;
James Wyatt Jordan 165 lbs. in 2:05;
Asa (Alex) Nelson, 157 lbs. in 3:17;
Devin Crawl, 184 lbs. in 5:51; and
Shawn Michael Beeson, 285 lbs. in 3:46.
Cody Randall, 125 lbs. won a major decision 10-2, while decision wins were recorded by
Caleb Basma, 133 lbs 5-4 over the #4 ranked Caysen Smith;
Dustin Hayden, 149 lbs. won 5-2; and
Saul Ortiz, 174 lbs. won 7-4. Randall, Basma, and Crawl made their debuts as members of the starting dual meet team.
Although the Norsemen have looked impressive so far this season, both assistant coaches
Dustin May and
Dennis Siegmann cautioned that, "It is early yet in the season and their is still a lot of work needed to be done before February." Head Coach
Joe Renfro reinforced those comments with, "We made some mistakes, but this part of the season is about getting better every day and learning from our mistakes."
The wrestlers will travel back to the St. Louis, Missouri area again this weekend for a tournament at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. on Saturday.
