Women's Soccer Beats Paris JC

MIAMI — Defending Region 2 Champion Northeastern A&M College opened the regular women's soccer season Saturday with a 2-0 shutout over the Dragons of Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas.
Coach Lisa Bell's Norse continued a two-match road trip Tuesday with a 2 p.m. non-conference match in Ardmore against the Division III Murray State College Lady Aggies.
NEO starts a two-game home stand at 5 p.m. Friday by hosting Cowley County (Kansas) Community College at Red Robertson Field. The Norse entertain Hesston (Kansas) College at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Against the Paris Dragons, the Norse tallied both goals during the first half to secure the victory.
Freshman forward Paige Logsdon, from Muskogee, received a pass from freshman mid-fielder Mariam Bartlett, from Fayetteville, Arkansas, and buried a shot in the back of the net at the 38-minute mark to give NEO a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, the Norse tallied their last goal as Bartlett connected on an unassisted long shot with 41 minutes showing on the clock.
Out of 17 total shots for the match, the Norse took 10 on goal.
Freshman Daritsa Herrera, from Princeton, Texas, and sophomore Demi Schlageter, from Texas City, Texas, combined to preserve the shutout for NEO as goalies. Herrera saved five shots on goal while Schlageter denied three shots.
Only two sophomores, Schlageter and forward Raunice Butler, from Nassau, Bahamas, played for NEO last year.
