Football Signs 2015 Class

2/6/2015 9:58:00 AM

MIAMI — After a lot of hard work from numerous people, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norseman football program received commitment from 80 high school players during Wednesday's national signing day.
"This was the culmination of a lot of hard work from a lot of guys," NEO head football coach Ryan Held said. "Recruiting coordinator Zach Allen did an excellent job of identifying our needs as a football team.
"Once he and our staff completed their evaluations, we took a page from the National Football League and created a recruiting board and put it up in our office," Held said. "Once we had the board in place, we started ranking players by position and we made a concentrated effort to recruit those top players."
Even though Held and his staff will have a very few letters of intent arrive in the next couple of days, they were able to receive commitments from 95 percent of the players they contacted.
"Now, there were a few players that we didn't get," Held said. "But they were kids that either signed with Division 1 schools or just decided that they weren't interested in going the junior college route.
"After all, we're in the second year of a process to rebuild this program," Held said. "We think this is another positive step in that direction.
"We know we couldn't have done so well without the input of NEO president Dr. Jeff Hale; athletic director Dale Patterson; Golden Norsemen Football Booster Club officers Rich Lillard and Stacey Satterwhite," Held said. "We also think that the entire community of Miami did a great job of representing itself during campus visitation by these prospects."
Last year in his first season as head coach, Held guided the Golden Norsemen to a 5-6 overall record.
An indication of the quality of players to commit to NEO was found in the signing of linebacker Tramayne Wauahdooah (6-3, 195 from Anadarko) and quarterback Wyatt Steigerwald (6-2, 185) and tight end Bryce Bell (6-2, 215) both from Nowata.
A recruiting service tabbed the Anadarko prospect as the No. 1 linebacker in Oklahoma, The two Nowata players helped the Ironmen finish second in Class 2A with a 14-1 record.
Nowata lost to Davis in the championship game, but on the way they beat both Miami and Commerce.
"Our recruiters were able to get quality kids that will fit well into our program," Held said. "Only time will tell how much of an influence these student-athletes will have both on and off the field."
