Volleyball Soar Past Eagles

MIAMI — Shaking off the rust of a 10-day layoff, Northeastern A&M's Norse volleyball team scored a 3-1 victory Tuesday night over the Oklahoma Wesleyan University junior varsity in the Student Activity Center.


While snapping a two-match losing streak, the No. 20 ranked Norse are 3-2 on the season while the Lady Owls JV are 0-2 on the season.
NEO remains at home Friday and Saturday for the inaugural NEO Invitational Volleyball Tournament to be played both in the SAC and the NEO Field House. 
The best-of-three tournament starts at 3 p.m. on Friday with the Norse facing Independence, Kansas (0-1) on court No. 1 while Labette, Kansas (2-3) plays Pratt, Kansas (6-3) on court No. 2. Southeast Nebraska (8-2) meets Independence at 5 p.m. on court No. 1 before East Central, Missouri (1-3) squares off against Labette on court No. 2.
The first round concludes at 7 p.m. Friday with NEO hosting Southeast Nebraska on court No. 1 while Pratt plays East Central on court No. 2.
Final round action on Saturday starts at 9 a.m. as the Norse battle Labette on court No. 1 and Independence meets East Central on court No. 2. Pratt faces Independence at 11 a.m. on court No. 1 and Southeast Nebraska plays Labette on court No. 2.
NEO meets Pratt at 1 p.m. on court No. 1 before the tournament wraps up with East Central playing Southeast Nebraska on court No. 2.
"We had a 21-18 lead in the first game against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University junior varsity," Iverson said. "But, we made a couple of unforced errors and they took advantage and we never recovered.
"This first game, we just seemed to be going through the motions," Iverson said. "It wasn't like we weren't giving the effort, we just couldn't build momentum to finish the game."
After the Lady Owls posted a come-from-behind 25-23 victory in the first game, the Norse won 25-22, 25-9 and 25-8 to capture the match.
