Blue River Sneaks By Soccer Norse

MIAMI — Despite scoring the first goal, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen soccer squad dropped a 3-1 decision Tuesday afternoon to Metropolitan Community College-Blue River at Robertson Field.

With the loss coach John Parrigon's Golden Norse are 2-2 on the season while the Trail Blazers are a perfect 3-0 on the year.
"After we scored, they came right back and tied the score," Parrigon said. "We played them even through the rest of the first half and through the first 10 minutes of the second.
"We had our opportunities, but we just didn't put any of them away," Parrigon said. "Once they scored a goal on a defensive mistake by us, they tacked on a penalty kick late in the match that really put it out of reach."
Sophomore midfielder Rodney Geremia of Ozark, Mo., gave NEO a brief 1-0 lead with 11:21 showing on the clock in the first half.
Less than two minutes later, veteran Trail Blazer midfielder Cortland Gibson created a 1-1 tie.
Blue River grabbed the lead at the 32:28 juncture in the second half as sophomore forward Danilo Cruz scored after stealing the ball at midfield.
Sophomore defender Caleb Thierry scored on a penalty kick with 20 minutes left in the match for the Trail Blazers.
The Norsemen travel to Chanute, Kan, Saturday, for a 7 p.m. match with Neosho County Community College. NEO returns to Robertson Field Sunday for an 11 a.m. match with St. Louis (Mo.) Community College.
