Your Golden Norse split doube header with NOC Tonkawa losing game one 6-5 and winning game two 8-4.
Freshman
Marc Berube gets the loss in game one running his record to 2-2 on the year. "Marc looked sharp early but the cold and a cut on his throwing had really bothered him today." says Coach Ward .. "We gave up a 5 runs in the 3rd and that was the difference in the game .. a couple of walks and a misplayed fly ball in right made it look like a big inning but we should have got out of it giving 1 or 2 runs only." "We had plenty of opportunities to score but could not get a key hit to get back in the game in the middle innings .. We did make a run at them late but again failed to get a key hit when needed." Freshman Catcher
Hector Candelaria let the Norse offense going 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI.
Game two saw Freshman RHP
Jake Jewell get his first win of the season. Jewell threw 51/3 striking out 7 while walking 2 and gave up 3 earned runs. " We felt that Jake really threw well today. This was his first start and we where not sure how long he would go. We feel as he gets conditioned to start he will be able to go well into 90 to 110 pitches and be afffective." The Norse had to win ths one in extra innings. "It is always a growth experience to win on the road and expecially winning in an extra inning affair .. this kinds of games really make you guys learn to play the game pitch by pitch" "It always gives you a chance to see you staff in a "game on the line" environment .. when the tied it in the 7th they where a break away from winning the game ..
Kyle Byrd made a great serious of pitchsto get the ground ball that got us out of the bases loaded situation .. 'We got a key lead off hit from Freshman
