Miami, OK – The Golden Norse wrestling team recorded two falls in a triumphant dual victory over Neosho Community College Wednesday in the Student Activities Center (SAC.)

In front of a large home crowd, a wrestling dual took place on the campus of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M for the first time in over 20 years. Coach Dustin May knows the tradition and history at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. "It was an exciting atmosphere tonight. NEO is well known for their athletics, and now to have wrestling apart of it is a huge honor. We hope we can continue the Golden Norse winning tradition."

Head Coach Joe Renfro honored special guest Everette Harris during the dual. Everette wrestled for NEO during the 1991 and 1992 seasons where he was a two time NJCAA National Champion at 142 lbs. He was the first and only two time NJCAA National Champion in Northeastern Oklahoma A&M history.

The dual began at 125 pounds and was a match up of #1 versus #2. Sophomore and #1 ranked Josh Walker managed to get one takedown and accumulated over two minutes of riding time to defeat #2 ranked Tim Prescott 5-2.

Neosho got on the board at 133 pounds as Lemuel Johnson stopped freshman Joshua Ailey. Ailey's two takedowns in the first period were not enough as he lost 8-4.

At 141 pounds, redshirt sophomore and #8 ranked Michael Williams fought out of a hole, as he was down early in the match. Williams rebounded nicely and walked away with a 17-12 decision over Alex Shea.

Freshman Lane Lassiter received a forfeit at 149 pounds, as Neosho did not weigh a wrestler in at his weight class.

The first fall of the night was recorded by redshirt freshman Mark Hobson at 157 pounds. Hobson controlled the first period, recording one takedown and a ride out. Hobson started the second period in the bottom position, where he was able to pin an out of position Ty Swartz at the 3:43 mark.

Sophomore Casey Powell managed to figure out the controls of Malik Colding and his one takedown and near fall two helped him to a 5-3 decision at 165 pounds.

Freshman Hayden Reeder fell to #7 ranked JJ Filipek 15-5 at 174 pounds.

Upset of the night came from freshman 184 pounder Nick Meck. Meck scored a last second takedown in the third period to defeat #5 ranked Austin Warren 3-1.

Redshirt freshman Kenny Cleveland was unable to defeat Dillion Archer at 197 pounds, and lost 8-3.

Freshman heavyweight and #7 ranked Jacoby Brown recorded his second fall in as many duals as he put away Tommy Andrews in 1:33.

Head Wrestling Coach Joe Renfro knows his team still has room to grow. "Certainly not our best performance, but something we can grow from.  We have to start increasing our leads and scoring with every opportunity. That opportunity isn't going to be given to us, so we've got to make sure we capitalize when we create it."

NEO wrestlers travel to Warrensburg, MO this upcoming weekend. 40 wrestlers are expected to compete at the CMSU Open, on the campus of Central Missouri State University Sunday, Nov. 17th. Wrestling begins at 9:00 am.
