Volleyball Finishes Off Tournament With Wins

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — Snapping a four-match losing streak Saturday, the Northeastern A&M Norse volleyball team won the final two matches in the Coffeyville Community College Invitational Tournament at Nellis Hall.


While splitting the four-match tournament, coach Eric Iverson's Norse are 12-11 on the season. 
NEO concluded a five-match road trip north of the border Monday with a 6:30 p.m. rematch with the Cardinals of Labette Community College in Parsons, Kan. The Norse return to the friendly confines of the NEO Student Activity Center on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match with Neosho County Community College of Chanute, Kan.
NEO struggled during Fridays opening round of the Coffeyville tournament as the Fort Scott Greyhounds won all three games in the first match. Fort Scott defeated the Norse by 25-15, 25-19 and 25-21 scores.
The host Coffeyville Red Ravens completed Fridays round with a three-game sweep of the Norse by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-16.
Returning to Coffeyville on Saturday, the Norse righted the ship by defeating the Independence (Kan.) Pirates in four games. After NEO won 25-22 in the first game, the Pirates won by an identical score 25-22 in the second contest. The Norse responded with victories of 25-21 and 25-19 to win the best three-out-of-five match.
Concluding the tournament against the nationally ranked Allen County Community College Red Devils of Iola, Kan., the Norse needed five games to capture the match. Allen County won 25-12 before NEO retaliated with victories of 25-23 and 25-22. The Red Devils won 25-23 to force a fifth game which NEO won by a 25-11 margin.
