PARSONS, Kan. - Along with closing out the first half of the regular season, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen concluded the non-conference portion of the schedule Thursday night with a 90-72 victory over Labette Community College in the Cardinals Fieldhouse.
With the victory, coach
Dustin Grover's Golden Norse enter the Christmas break with an 8-7 record while the Labette Cardinals are 6-6 on the year.
NEO returns for practice on Jan. 2 before starting play in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference on Jan. 8 in the NEO Fieldhouse against arch rival 17th-ranked Connors State College. While the Golden Norse are 1-2 in the conference, veteran coach Bill Muse has guided the Cowboys to a perfect 3-0 OCAC mark and a 12-1 overall record.
Five members of the Golden Norse reached double figures in the victory over Labette. Freshman guard Jeff Newberry tallied a season-high 26 total points as the Norsemen constructed a 40-31 cushion at the end of the first half.
Freshman Frederico Santos contributed 13 points and 14 rebounds for NEO while
Derrick Frye added 12,
Jake Roach 11 and Ja'Mill Powell 10 points.
Sophomore Keshaun Hamilton (6-10 from Palatka, Fla.), who has already signed with the University of Oklahoma, led the Cardinals with 18 total points and nine rebounds. Veteran guard Eddie Williams produced 15 points, freshmen Stanley Melancon 12 and Anthony Elechi 11 points.
