Despite a long drive and a two hour rain delay the Lady Norse split with Western State College on Tuesday, April 19th. The base paths were crowded for both offenses in a high-scoring game where Western came out on top against NEO, 11-8 in game one. NEO was leading 3-2 in the top of the second inning with bases loaded and two outs when the game was put on hold due to the weather. After sitting for two hours NEO picked back up, trying to carry the momentum from earlier in the day. NEO put a valiant effort in the sixth inning with four runs. The inning's big bats were led by Payton Compton and Felicity Horn, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Abby Ishmael started game one. The righty went two innings, allowing six runs on four hits. Kate Faber took the loss, lasting four innings, allowing four hits and five runs. NEO smacked one home run by Felicity Horn in the sixth inning. The Lady Norse racked up eight hits for game one, it just wasn't enough to come out on top. Compton, Faber, and Horn all managed multiple hits. Makiah Torres had a double, Donaldson had a single, hit by pitch, and a walk. Tara Hall added a single and a hit by pitch. Paige Morrall walked in the third inning, and Mahala Battiest was smacked twice with two hit by pitches in back-to-back at bats.
Game two went a little differently as NEO got rolling in the second inning and couldn't be stopped, scoring 11 runs in the frame. The second inning went a little like this: Hall led off and grounded out, Paulo singles, Hannon walks, Gregory singles, Compton grounds into a fielder's choice, with Gregory out advancing to second base. Then with two outs NEO unleashes at the plate. Horn walks, Torres singles, Faber is hit by a pitch, Donaldson singles, Hall walks, Paulo walks, Hannon has a big double, and then Calee Gregory hits a bomb over the left field fence. NEO had ten hits total, with Calee Gregory leading. She drove in four on three hits to lead in hits and RBI's. Gregory went a perfect three for three at the plate with two singles and a homerun. Makiah Torres also had three hits, Hannon had two, and Compton and Donaldson added one each. Hannon and Paxton both had two RBI's, and Paulo, Torres, Faber, and Compton all added an RBI each to help contribute to the win. Paulo took care of the circle, surrendering four runs on seven hits over five innings. She struck out four and walked only one.
