11/29/2018 8:21:00 PM

Box Score MIAMI — The Northeastern A&M women pinned the first loss of the season on Redlands Community College with a 79-67 win at the NEO Field House.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 1:41 of the game, but NEO went on a 21-0 tear to go up 21-4 — and they continues to dominate.

The Lady Norse were up by 14 after one and by 17 (42-25) just before intermission thanks to a 3-point goal by Emily McAdams.

Redlands pared the gap to nine heading into the fourth quarter and made it a seven-point game with 4:05 remaining.

But a pair of treys and a bucket from inside helped the Lady Norse (7-4, 2-0) get things back under control.

"I thought we controlled the game the whole time, but when we had them down, we should have kept them down," Lady Norse coach Jim Rowland said. "We need to learn how to take care of the basketball better."

Bethy Mununga continued her string of double doubles by snagging a season-best 18 rebounds and scoring 15 points.

That's her 26th out of 27 games hitting double figures in points and rebounds. She closed out the 2016-17 with 15 in a row.

"She should have had another couple more buckets, missed a couple easy layups," Rowland said. "She's been really, really good here lately. I will take that from her every night, no matter what."

Point guard Jo'Nah Johnson had a game-high 24 to lead the NEO A&M scoring.

Megan Jackson finished with 13 and Eliska Stebetakova added a season-high 10 while coming off the bench.

The Lady Norse also got six points each from Kiarra Brooks and McAdams while Ivvana Arango tallied three and Raven Blackbear added pair of free throws.

Reneya Hopkins and Karyssa Johnson tallied 23 and 13 points, respectively, for Redlands.

"They were 10-0 for a reason, but our girls never quit," Rowland said.

NEO travels to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, for the Three Rivers Classic.

It plays host Three Rivers on Friday then Mineral Area College Saturday.
