Box Score MIAMI — Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College started the second half of season on the right foot Saturday with a 68-52 victory over Labette Community College in the NEO Field House.
While completing the non-conference portion of the regular season the Golden Norsemen are 8-7 on the year. The loss dropped the Division II Cardinals to 6-10 overall.
"Offensively, we got some good looks in the paint at the basket," NEO head coach
Dustin Grover said. "But, we still have to start knocking down some perimeter shots.
"We were able to create better shots and more opportunities than we have all year," Grover said. "But we're still not knocking them down with any consistency.
"Once we start doing that and make some more free throws, we'll start winning game in and game out."
NEO resumes action in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference at 7:30 p.m. Monday by facing Seminole State College at Raymond C. Harbor gymnasium.
The Golden Norsemen are winless in their first two conference games while the Seminole Trojans are 1-1 in the league and 11-2 overall.
"Seminole is a really good basketball team with one of the best point guards (freshman Leon Snead), in the county," Grover said. "They are a very good offensive team, but they struggle on the defensive end."
Snead, 6-0 from Desoto, Texas, has recorded 79 assists and 15 steals with a 13.7 scoring average.
The Trojans rely on sophomore center Joseph Bradshaw (6-8) to control the paint. Bradshaw averages 5.5 rebounds and 11.3 points per game for Seminole.
After not scoring in the first three minutes of the opening half against Labette, the Norsemen built a 29-21 cushion at intermission.
"(Gabriel) Ferreria and (Pedro) Lopes combined for 21 total shots which meant that most of them were within the paint," Grover said. "Then,
Morris Talbert came off the bench in the second half and provided a spark to our perimeter game."
Ferreria led the Norsemen with 19 total points while Talbert and Lopes combined for 14 points each.
Tyjuan Johnson added 7 points, Aaron Chavis 6, Kingsley Sam 5 and
Justin Ford 3.
Frank Broyles led the Cardinals with 23 total points while Kevin Mack contributed 14, Matt Morgan 7, Tyriq Gunnels 4 and Joseph Clark 4.
