NEO Takes Down OCU In Dual

NJCAA #1 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College closed out their dual meet season with a hard-fought 22-13 victory over NAIA #8 Oklahoma City University on Wednesday evening in the campus Student Activities Center. The Norsemen finished with a 14-1 dual meet record.
 
The Norse wrestlers rolled to a 15-0 lead on the strength of victories in the first four weight classes. At 125 lbs. NJCAA #4 ranked Logan Terrill, sophomore, Ark City, Kansas defeated NAIA ranked #15 Mason Naifeh 6-4. Terrill is now 26-6.  133 lbs. Caleb Basma, sophomore, Sand Springs, Oklahoma won 4-1 to improve to 18-14.  NJCAA #3 ranked Curtis Burnett, sophomore, Independence, Kansas recorded a 13-0 major decision to improve to 21-5.  The fourth win came at 149 lbs. where NJCAA #3 ranked red-shirt freshman Dylan Lucas, Plainview, Oklahoma secured a tech fall 19-3 and is now 18-1.
 
The best match of the evening featured 157 lbs. NJCAA #6 ranked Asa (Alex) Nelson, sophomore, Guthrie, Oklahoma against NAIA #11 ranked Kristian Holguin-Mendez (a two time NJCAA All American at NEO). Holguin-Mendez secured a 6-4 win in a mad scramble in the final 10 seconds. Nelson is now 25-9.
 
NEO won the next two matches to lead 22-3 with wins from NJCAA #5 ranked 165 lbs. James Wyatt Jordan, freshman, Collinsville, Oklahoma 25-9 and NJCAA #1 ranked 174 lbs. Saul Ortiz, sophomore, Wichita, Kansas 23-7.
 
Oklahoma City won the final three matches with decisions over 184 lbs. Sam Dawes, sophomore, Coweta, Oklahoma; 197 lbs. NJCAA #5 Ruston Duke, freshman, Plainview, Oklahoma; and 285 lbs. NJCAA #5 Shawn Michael Beeson, red shirt sophomore, Monett, Missouri.  Beeson, 20-7 lost a sudden victory overtime match to NAIA  #3 ranked Korey Walker 3-1.
 
The Norsemen wrestlers close out the regular season on Saturday with the first annual Golden Norsemen Open, in the SAC beginning at 9:00 am. 150 wrestlers are expected to participate in this open tournament event. Wrestlers from NCAA D1, D2, and NAIA schools are expected to participate.
