Norsemen Wrestlers Topple Neosho CC 44-3
The NJCAA #1 ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College wrestling team improved to 13-1 with a dominant victory over visiting Neosho CC, Kansas last night (1-18-2017). The Norsemen demonstrated their depth by using only three of their nine NJCAA ranked wrestlers and winning nine of ten matches. NEO scored seven bonus point wins in those nine matches. According to Coach
Joe Renfro, "Scoring bonus points in individual matches is what wins national titles and this team keeps working to score points". The Norsemen recorded 2 falls, 2 forfeits, 2 technical falls, and 1 major decision.
#4 ranked 125 lbs.
Logan Terrill (21-5), sophomore from Ark City, Kansas started the night off with a 15-4 major decision over 2016 NJCAA national qualifier Jay Maxville.
Caleb Basma 133 lbs. (14-13), sophomore, Sand Springs, Oklahoma followed with a close victory 4-2. #3 ranked 141 lbs.
Curtis Burnett (18-3), sophomore, Independence, Kansas then secured a 17-2 technical fall. Neosho forfeited at 149 lbs. to redshirt freshman
Dylan Lucas (17-1), ranked #3. At 157 lbs. Caney Valley, Kansas sophomore
Colton Stalford (9-6) won with a fall at 4:00. Freshman 165 lbs.
Carlos Diaz (5-6), Klein Oak, Texas also won with a fall in 1:52.
At 174 lbs.
Sam Dawes, sophomore, Coweta, Oklahoma lost in sudden victory overtime 3-1 to Jacob Walker. Neosho then forfeited at 184 to
Devin Crawl (21-9), freshman, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
At 197, another Klein Oak, Texas wrestler, sophomore,
Augustus Boyd (10-6) defeated previously NJCAA ranked and 2016 national qualifier Josh Walker 3-1.
Christian Robertson (11-8), sophomore, 285 lbs. from Branson, Missouri closed out the match with a 20-1 technical fall for the Norsemen.
NEO travels on Sunday to Central Missouri University for an open tournament, before returning home next Wednesday for their final dual meet of the season hosting Oklahoma City University. The Norsemen close out the regular season on January 28 hosting the first annual Golden Norsemen Open.
