Box Score MIAMI — Scoring runs in four of the first five innings, No. 15
th ranked Northeastern A&M cruised to a 13-8 victory Tuesday over Labette Community College from Parsons, Kansas, in a nine-inning baseball game on Homa Thomas Field.
After completing a five-game home stand, coach
Roger Ward's Golden Norsemen carried a 9-2 season record Wednesday evening to Roughrider Field on the campus of Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. The Norsemen played a nine-inning game against Southwest Tennessee Community College from Memphis. The Saluqis Dog's are 9-10 on the year.
NEO constructed a brief 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against the Labette Cardinals (5-7) on a solo home run by
Houston Glad (1).
The Cardinals tied the score in the top of the third inning off NEO starter Albertus Barber (1-0). A double by Aaron Davis and a single by Austin Giannola started the rally. A sacrifice fly to right by Ryan Minton scored Davis for a 1-1 deadlock.
A walk by
Keaton Presley started a four-run third inning for NEO. Popovich doubled to left-center scoring Presley.
Tyler Gunter singled scoring Popovich before Glad connected for his second home run of the game in as many at-bats to create a 5-1 Norse margin.
Golden Norse catcher
Colby LeBlanc started a thee-run bottom of the fourth by reaching base after Labette catcher Davis mishandled a called third strike. Centerfielder
Dion Williams (1) followed with a two-run homer scoring LeBlanc. Presley followed with a double, stole third and scored as Antchak hit into a fielder's choice for an 8-1 NEO cushion.
The Cardinals used a lead off home run by Julian Lopez (1) to ignite a three-run fifth inning. Giannola reached on an error and Luis Alvarado doubled scoring Giannola. NEO's second error of the inning on a ball hit by Dallas Peterson allowed Alvarado to score for an 8-4 deficit.
Glad was hit by a pitch to start a two-run bottom of the fifth inning for NEO.
Chadwick Ramsey walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch by Labette's Garrett Garner. Glad scored on a sacrifice by by
Brett D'Amico before Ramsey scored on another wild pitch for a 10-4 Norse lead.
Labette scored four unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning on two of NEO's six errors of the game. A two-run triple by Eric Cuevas fueled the rally for a 10-8 deficit.
A triple by Williams ignited a three-run NEO eighth inning. After a sacrifice fly scores Williams, Popovich walked.
Tristen Gagan followed with a two-run homer to conclude the scoring.
Popovich, Glad and Williams had two hits each to pace the 11-hit Norse offense. Seven of the 11 hits were for extra bases.
Cuevas and Giannola collected two hits each of the eight total Cardinal hits.
