Soccer Dominates St. Louis

MIAMI — After suffering a 3-0 shutout at Neosho County Community College on Saturday, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen returned to Robertson Field Sunday and cruised to a 6-1 rout over St. Louis (Mo.) Community College.


With the split coach John Parrigon's Golden Norsemen are 3-3 on the season. NEO travels to Tonkawa, Thursday, for a 4 p.m. Region 2 match with Northern Oklahoma College. The defending regional champion Mavericks are a perfect 4-0 on the year.
The St. Louis Archers (1-5) opened the match with a goal by midfielder Steve Strahan at the 8:21 point of the first half.
NEO retaliated with two consecutive goals each by forwards Jacob James and Zac Chism and one by center back Cole Shepard to construct a 5-1 margin in the first half.
James, from England, tied the score on a pass from Jacob Jacola with 5:01 gone in the first half.
Four minutes later James took a pass from Michael Husbands at the 9:31 mark to give NEO a 2-1 lead.
Jacola, from Dallas, Texas, right midfielder found Chism, from Nixa, Mo., on consecutive passes to increase the Golden Norseman lead to a 4-1 cushion with 24:22 showing on the clock in the first half.
NEO's final goal came at the 73:21 mark as midfielder Daniel Monthin, from Germany, received a pass from Husbands and scored on a long shot to end the scoring.
Two first half goals by midfielder Aaron Crane and one by midfielder Juan Ocampo carried the Neosho County Panthers (4-1) to a 3-0 shutout over the Norsemen on Saturday in Chanute, Kan.
NEO was unable to convert on five corner kicks and 14 shots on goal during the match.
