Box Score TISHOMINGO — With three players scoring in double figures, the Northeastern A&M Norse defeated the Murray State College Lady Aggies 77-70, Monday in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Beames Field House.
While winning 19 of their last 20 conference games, coach Jim Rowland's Norse are 2-0 in the OCAC and 6-1 on the season. The loss dropped the Lady Aggies 0-2 in the conference and 4-5 overall.
"We're starting to feel each other out now and we're creating better shots," Rowland said. "Now that we're getting to know each other better after that long break we had, we're playing with more confidence and more relaxed."
Eight points each by Melinda Murillo, Asia McCaskill and Chanel Akins along with five points by Shalie McAlister and three points each by Kamry Chamberlain, Sarah Short, Ciera Roberts and Yamile Rodriguez propelled the Norse to a 41-27 cushion at halftime.
NEO canned 24 of 40 free throws for the entire game while the Lady Aggies sank 17 of 27 at the charity stripe.
Murillo led all scorers with 22 total points while Akins hit 16, McCaskill 11, Chamberlain 8, McAlister 5, Roberts 4, Rodriguez 4, Short 3, Nikola Nedoroscikova 2 and Brittney Rufus 2.
Ebony Harrison led the Lady Aggies with 17 points, Tine Ransrup-Thomsen 14, Tierani Richardson 11, Tosin Mabodu 8, Shaylynn Bass 8, Trinity Davis 6 and Kamilian Williams 2.
"Our girls are really buying into what we are trying to do defensively once we go over our game plan," Rowland said. "That's what I really like about this team is that they are really focused on what it takes game in and game out to stop our opponent."
