Volleyball Finishes Regular Season With Win

NEVADA, Mo. — Solidifying their No. 1 seed position in the upcoming District O Tournament, the Northeastern A&M Norse defeated Cottey College by a 3-2 score Wednesday in the final match of the regular season at the Hinkhouse Center.

"Not only did we reappear as a team receiving votes in the weekly National Junior College Athletic Association Women's Division 2 national volleyball poll, but we ended the regular season on a very positive note," Norse head coach Eric Iverson said. "It's good that our players are being recognized for having a very good season even though our overall record may not reflect that."
With the win the Norse are 15-15 on the season and 7-1 in the district which includes teams from Region 2 (Oklahoma) and Region 16 (Missouri). The District O Tournament is scheduled Nov. 1-2 in the Hinkhouse Center on the campus of Cottey College in Nevada, Mo.
Winner of the district tournament advances to the Women's Division 2 National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament, Nov. 21-23, at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio.
"This also marks the first time that NEO has received the outright No. 1 seed for the district tournament," Iverson said. "We won the district last season, but we've never gone into the thing as the top seed."
NEO opened the best three-out-of-five match with the Cottey Comets (8-17 and 2-6) with a 25-10 victory in the first game.
After the Comets rallied for a 26-24 win in the second game, NEO rolled to a 25-19 victory in the third game.
Cottey College posted a 25-23 win to tie the match before the Norse won 15-12 in the deciding fifth game.
