Box Score Freshman forward Frederico Santos scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Northeastern A&M Golden Norsemen to a 95-46 rout in the home opener at the NEO Fieldhouse over the Oklahoma Wesleyan University junior varsity Saturday.
The Golden Norse (3-3) travel to Moberly, Mo., on Tuesday and Central Methodist, Mo. junior varsity on Wednesday next week.
Santos (6-5 from Rio de Janerio, Brazil) scored 10 of his total points in the first half as the Golden Norsemen jumped out to a 21-5 margin in the first 10 minutes of the opening half. Jeff Newberry and
Ja'mill Powell combined for four points each and Gerado Isla added a basket and Rufus Brown a solo free throw.
Consecutive 3-pointers by Tim Wright, Troy Green and Jarvis Adams rallied the Eagles (2-4) to a 21-14 deficit with 8:24 left in the first 20 minutes.
Seven points by Powell along with six points each by Darron Claxton, Newberry, Brown and Isla allowed the Norsemen to maintain a 54-20 advantage at intermission.
During the second half the Golden Norse received balanced scoring from Santos, Brown,
Jake Roach,
Luther Thomas, Nkosi Ali, Powell, Isla, Tim Cash, TJ Williams and Javaune Dawson to near the century mark as the game ended.
Along with the 19 points from Santos, NEO received 14 from Newberry, Powell 1, Isla 12 and Brown 10.
NEO connected on 41 of 76, including 7 of 22 from 3-point range for 54 percent from the field and 6 of 11 for 55 percent at the free throw line.
Adams paced the Eagles in scoring with 12 total points as OWU JV sank only 16 of 52, including 10 of 23 3-pointers, for 31 percent from the field. The Eagles made 4 of 8 from the free throw line.
NEO dominated the boards by a 53 to 28 margin.
