After graduating from Miami High School in 1967, Monty Franks enrolled as a student at Neo and was the equipment manager for various sports including the ’67 and ‘69 Golden Norseman NJCAA National Championship football teams. He graduated NEO in 1969.

Franks earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters of junior college education degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. While a student at NSU, he served as a sports writer and editor for the student newspaper and as a graduate assistant in the Sports Information Department. He also wrote for the Tahlequah Pictorial Press newspaper.
Following one year as student newspaper and yearbook advisor and journalism instructor at Claremore Junior College, Franks became Public Information Director, journalism instructor and Norse Wind Advisor at NEO in 1974.


He was selected Outstanding Junior College Sports Information Director by the College Sports Information Directors Association in 1978 and 1979. His football media guides were selected best all-around by the National Junior College Athletic Association from 1977 through 1980.
After his retirement from NEO in 2002, Franks continues to write articles concerning NEO athletics for the daily Miami News-Record.
He and his wife, Pamela Bushyhead, have five children and 12 grandchildren.
